Tooth decay is caused by acids which are produced by the bacteria that live in your mouth. The bacteria digest starches and sugars in the food we eat. Some notorious examples are milk, crackers, chips, cereal, sugary drinks, candy, bread and other baked goods. The acids the bacteria produces can weaken your tooth enamel which causes cavities. Its a slow process but remeber the bacteria eat everytime we do, so brush & floss your teeth as soon as you can after eating foods in the above examples. Regular dental cleanings and exams can prevent complications such as pain, infection & tooth loss.
